National Million Pillowcase Challenge
Tuesday, August 3rd
Make A Pillowcase, Make A Difference!
On Tuesday, August 3rd, we will host our first pillowcase challenge as part of the
National Million Pillowcase Challenge from American Patchwork & Quilting. This is a year
long challenge to create & donate one million pillowcases to charities across the nation.
A pillowcase can provide COMFORT for a cancer patient, HOPE for a foster child,
ENCOURAGEMENT for battered women & BEAUTY for a nursing home resident.
Here is how it works: On Tuesday, August 3rd, we will set up 6 to 8 machines. You provide
the fabric (from your stash, or we offer a 30% discount on fabric for a pillowcase). If you
want to make more than one pillowcase for donation, we will donate the fabric for a second.
We will donate fabric for up to 30 pillowcases during our 30th Anniversary Sale.
Give us a call or come in & register for a scheduled time to sew. In addition, if you are
unable to join us in the shop but still wish to donate, come in, get a pattern, sew it at
home & return the pillowcase to the shop. You will need: 1 yard of fabric for a plain
pillowcase, or 3/4 yard main fabric & 1/3 yard contrasting fabric for the border.
We will supply trims.
Our own little contest in the store will be: You will receive 1 point for each pillowcase you make
during the month of August. On August 31st, who ever has the most points will win a prize AND may choose the local charities we donate our pillowcases to.
We hope you will join us on Tuesday, August 3rd & donate some of your time to help others.
SOMEONE WILL LOVE YOU FOR IT!

We have added a new 'Beginning Quilting' series of 4 classes to our August & September calendars. This was a popular class that filled up fast soregister early for your space in the class.
*****
Teaching our 'Bali Bag' class in August is Bunny Henningsen, owner of
BunnyRose & Company in Groveland CA. Bunny made her first quilt at 12 years old and
now sews for Alex Anderson, she has been on her show many times as the hostess of
"The Treasure Chest".

Another new teacher at our shop is Nancy Bartlett, teaching The Pampered Quilter on
Friday, November 5. Nancy began her quilting career over 35 years ago when she was challenged to make a quilt. She has worked for JoAnn Fabrics, managed Hancock Fabrics
in Newark, CA & a quilt shop in Oakdale CA. She eventually purchased the Oakdale shop & moved it to Fremont, CA but realized that owning her own shop was a 24 hour a day job
& there was no time to quilt!
Since closing her store, she shares her enthusiasm for quilting with others by teaching.
Some of her designs have been published in "The Quilter" & "McCalls Quilting" magazines.
She currently lives in Coquille, OR & makes most of the shop samples for the quilt shop in Florence, OR, either from printed patterns or her own designs. The idea for the "Pampered Quilter" classes began when she heard of a shop offering classes where the fabric was cut
for the students. Taking the idea a step further she cuts your fabric, presses and reverse sews during class AND serves lunch! The patterns are fun & easy, just right for beginners, & the "Pampered Quilters" will go home with a completed quilt top!
